Since
I was a child and after watching the TV series “Knight
Rider” I
had the dream of owning a 3rd generation Pontiac Firebird.
My dream became
a reality in May 2005 when I found the car on eBay.
The seller
was local and I was able to arrange a visit to see the car
first hand prior to bidding.
The black Pontiac Firebird was in very good condition for its
age; still sporting its original paint job.
June
2, 2006 - The car was painted! -
The original paint was showing its age. I took the car
to Maaco. I am keeping the car the same color.
I
will never forget when I asked the owner to let me hear the engine.
He invited me to sit down in the "cockpit" (the interior
of the firebird was designed taking a business Learjet as a model)
and
he proceeded
to
turn the ignition key on.
After a
few second of hearing the engine roar,
and
feeling
the
vibration generated by the 3 inch stainless steel Borla Cat-Back
exhaust system, the natural question that came out of my mouth was: “Why
are you selling this car?” He answered: “Because
I have a newer Pontiac Firebird”, he pointed at his
garage, and there it was a shinning red and fairly new 4th generation
Pontiac
Firebird-Transam.
I smiled… and thought to myself: “Here
I am, looking to get an old Pontiac firebird, after selling my 1999 Pontiac
Firebird-Transam, total opposite.”...but
hey, dreams are dreams.
I
bid on the car and a few days later and after the eBay auction ended.
I was
the happy owner
of a
black 1989 Pontiac Firebird. I drove the car from the previous owner’s
house headed to my mechanic's shop. My dad followed me in his car,
and he later told me that the Firebird look really nice on the road.
